where are the "rust" spots, are they on the front end, like road tar/ bug corpses? How long have they been there, how big are the spots? Are they on top of the paint ie. when one is scraped off is the paint and clear coat still present underneath, or are they through the paint ie. primer or bare metal underneath? Do they feel like bumps or dips in the paint. Is the paint cleaned and or waxed. Was the car waxed before these spots appeared. Finally, can you post a picture of these spots online. Sorry I can't tell you anything, but with some more info I might be able to give you an idea of what they are. One last thing though, does the owner remember anything happening just before they appeared and where did this occur. Your friends best bet might be to go to a local detail shop and talk to the most experienced guy there, it'd be a lot easier to tell what they are in person. Write back with some more info and I'll try to help as much as I can.
