Using "Forever Black"

These may be obvious questions. I did a search here and did not come up with any answers, so, here goes...
I was introduced to Forever Black at the last SOC. Now that my black trim is a sad grey after a long winter, I bought some FB of my own. (It's miraculous what a difference it makes to clean up the trim!) But I'm looking for some advice on how to use it since the instructions are not very illuminating.
It comes with the cleaner you are supposed to use first. The 4oz bottle says to mix 4oz with a gallon of water...which would be the whole bottle? So the cleaner is only to be used before the first ever application of the FB?
The FB bottle says to mask off painted areas so they won't stain. Previous posts here suggest that the masking is important. When you go to the FB website, it says there is no need to mask as the dye won't adhere to paint. I'd like to avoid sticking tape on my car if possible, but is the masking essential? Your experiences?
Some previous posts complain about streaking. Any input on that; when it seems to occur, how you've learned to avoid it?
Thanks for any feedback...
