Rusted Engine Bits & Bolts...how to repair/prevent

My '02 Viggen looks almost perfect inside and out, until you look closely at the engine. Having survived 4 Canadian winters, some of the engine bolts and plated parts have begun to oxidize. The bolts on the DIC and valve cover bug me the most. I looked at replacing them with new ones but at $8 CDN each for the latter, I don't think so.....even I'm not that anal!
Any suggestions on how to restore things, bolts in particular? If I decide to paint them, do I need to use a high temperature paint? How can I prevent this?
Any suggestions would be appreciated,
Robert
