got rid of them by polishing you'd probably be down to half the thickness of glass :-)
i'm not sure if buffing compound or polishing compound of some sort might do the trick, you'd have to ask a glass person that question. bear in mind the fact that it is tempered safety glass may make that not an option.
since the glass is at least 15 years old now at this point if it's the original, that's not a bad life, and if you want a clear view, replacing it may be the only option. perhaps some others can chime in with suggestions as well. if you do replace the glass, the 1990 had bronze tinted windows, not green.
