AeroJ's got it, but I would make a template first out of something like cardboard form a cereal box. Once you've got that fit properly, clearing the clips and all, use it to cut the mesh by taping it on top.

I used tin snips, but not to cut along the mesh panel, but rather to snip individual strands of the mesh so as not to flatten it.

I would also note that the mesh (if we're talking expanded metal here vs. the true wire mesh) has each strand on an angle. Hold the mesh sheet at the angle of the grill and you will see that holding it one way. the angle of the strands is virtually horizontal. The other way around, the strands will block airflow. I've seen many make this mistake and although the airflow effect may not be that greatly impeded, it just looks wrong.
