You need to get ALL the milk out and clean with an enzymatic cleaner. Bleach won't do it alone. If the milk got into the carpet, I would definitely pull it up as the milk will find its way into all of the cracks and seams in the sheet metal. I don't know how bad you spill was, but a friend of mine spilled a gallon in his trunk and even after cleaning had to sell his car.
