SPG Panel refinishing, Ques. re: prep for painting Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Mon, 30 Jun 2008 08:03:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've searched here and seen a number of different approaches, so I've got a few questions that I'd appreciate some help with,
1) do I neeed the SEM 3835 plastic prep, or can I just use isopropyl alcohol as others have suggested? Seems that the only purpose of SEM's product is to remove grease and oils. Since I am going to power wash these followed by a 400 grit wet sand, doesn't that seem sufficient? In absence of any obvious grease stains on the panels, will I be in good shape just using an alcohol wipe down?
2) Several previous posters have noted that using the flexible primer is not necessary. I will be painting these essentially the same color in the SEM flexible bumper paint (SEM 39273, Charcoal metallic). Any thoughts on this?
