its made out of an alien technology but it can be repaired with fiberglass work, sand the edges of the crack and an inch on the top and bottom of the tail on both pieces, use 120 grit dry sand paper, sand the heck out of it, take the paint down to the primer on the tail, (or the raw fiberglass) buy fiber glass mat and cut a two inch strip off the mat.
in the length of a full wrap around the tail,
as in when the tail pieces are put together the 2 inch width strip will run over the top of the tail down the back up under the bottom and wrap back around the top again.
buy fiberglass resin and three of them dollar brushes and three mixing sticks, get three plastic dollar pots also.
if you dont know how to mix the resin do some trial runs, put a little on some cardboard add a few drips of its catalysis and stir it together.
you need to mix it so the resin harden not to a soft spongy finish being to little of the catalysis was added, and not to much of its catalysis or the resin will crack in a few months (will also smoke while its drying)
a good resin mix should dry rock hard in 5 min. and be a little warm to the touch. so your going to need to work in a timely manner.
after sanding the tail get a rag and denatured alcohol and clean all the remaining dust, dirt off. set the tail on the counter and lay the mat strip across the top of the tail and down the back side, (tuck the rest under the tail.
when you think you can mix a good resin batch mix some in the dollar pot and immediately grab the dollar brush and start laying a coat of resin over the mat strip across the top and down the back side.
(did i mention to ware rubber gloves through-out this entire process.
work in a quick but clean manner, all then splatters with the resin on the tail will be hell to sand later.
when you got a coat on the top and down the back side (STOP)
before the resin starts to set up. if you keep playing with it as in keep brushing coat after coat the resin will dry the brush to the tail.
let-alone the mat strip get pulled out of place.
one good coat is all we are after, (note, to really wet the mat strip)
try some trial runs on the card board.
when the first coat is done toss out the used brush, stir stick, and pot
and get a new pair of rubber gloves on.
after a half an hour flip the tail very carefully lay out the rest of the mat strip down the back side, and mix a good amount of resin.
(don't want the resin drying to soft.)
to little catalysis the resin will be soft and it wont dry for hours, heck even days)
after a good amount is mixed brush a coat on quickly, then with the rest of the resin pour it on the mat strip and brush a thick coat over top of the mat strip, the ((STOP BRUSHING))
its critical to be finished playing with the resin before its set time, and the set time is different depending of how you mix it.
your looking for it drying in 4 to 8 min. (not smoking while its drying or it will crack few weeks down the road)
after all finished grab 100 grit and sand the heck out of the rough spots, just enough so its sorta smooth.
might even want to get 60 grit, but dont dig into the mat strip with the sanding, just looking for sorta smooth.
then when satisfied grab a troul and a little bondo and smooth it out even more, then sand the bondo with 120 or 220 what -ver you fancy.
there you are, one repaired whale tail. just dont play foot ball with it and you will be fine
