I don't think one is better than the other. Most are pretty small that you can get at auto parts stores except for "Clay Magic". It gives you a decent sized peice of clay. I've heard here that "Griots Garage" gives a good sized bar also.
The bar won't really be picking up big particles. Make sure to wash thoroughly, then use some rubbing alcohol to take off big spots of road tar and other gunk.....then use the clay bar. It is meant to clean really small contaminants off the paint surface....some things you can't even see. Also takes off spots from sap and small bits of tar.
I use one everywhere on the car before I polish and wax. Works great on plastic, headlights, etc. and won't harm any surface. Just be sure to use plenty of lubricant. You can use plenty of clean soapy water if you want as lubricant. I've started to do that lately since then you only have to dry the car afterwards vs. drying then clay barring with lubricant and having to rub dry the lubricant. Believe me, do enough of clay barring followed by a three step cleaner/glaze/wax program and you will find ways to cut time off of it. Then save whatever comes with the bar to spritz up the car when it gets dusty.
Now....start stretching out your arms for a long day of wax on/wax off.
