In a 60 sec radio or 30 sec TV spot copy is limited. In those spots they are primarily trying to get an image across. But the website has plenty of elbow room to tell a story supported by facts that are relevant. That Saab had the first heated seats and has always had dim dash lights is a nice cocktail tidbit, but won't move inventory today.
I question your sweeping statement that nobody cares about the performance numbers. Maybe on Saturns, Corollas and Tauruses the lease payment is foremost, but in the world of higher end sports sedans the numbers do count for alot.
Take a look at any magazine review and the performance statistics are featured. If the marketing people can't work around the lawyers to state facts and figures, they are plain lazy. BMW and Audi quote the stats all the time, because they have a handle on the enthusiast market. Saab marketing specifically and GM marketing in general shows the increasing influence of detached desk jockeys who couldn't drive a stick, let alone find the oil filter. They come from the Zarella land of hyped up resumes and faked MBA's. i still say, "Where's the beef?"
