In the new issue of Automobile there's a little story about the impending 9-2 and 9-7 -- the Subaru and the Trailblazer. The magazine is dead set against this and says it's a big mistake. The story also quotes Bob Lutz saying something like "We can't go on treating Saab as some sort of protected species...it has to support itself" I'm paraphrasing.
There have been other notes in TSN about saving Saab, the future of Saab, etc. These remarks by Lutz are the most chilling I've seen. He really seems to be saying, in code, that time is running out for Saab. He's justifying the Saaburu and the badge-engineered SUV as desperate steps to build some traffic as the brand runs out of time.
As the owner of a 2003 Aero, with 4.5 years of payments yet to go, I want the company to survive. Does anyone think there's actually a chance that GM could pull the plug, a la Oldsmobile? What's the solution?
