Go ahead and ask your mechanic if you can bring your own parts---but just be aware of the fact that he makes a profit on parts he sells--and by bringing in your own parts you are denying him that profit. My Saab tech adds an extra charge if you bring in your own parts and will refuse to install inferior parts. Most of those parts you see advertised for less are really junk. Also my Saab tech offers no warranty of any kind for customer parts, But he gives a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty on his own parts and labor.
