yes, a virus, or a worm. Check the headlines, you are not alone. Here's what I did for my XP machine:
First, hit "start" then "run" then type "services.msc"
Scroll down to 'remote procedure call' and double click.
Click recovery tab and on all the failure tabs choose "restart the service" instead of "restart the computer".
That allowed me to download the patch from Microsoft. After that my AV program kept telling me I had a virus, but it couldn't get rid of it. So, off to Symantec page, where they have a removal tool download for this thing. Pay attention to where they tell you how to first turn off "system restore", or your computer will just revert to the infected version when you restart. I downloaded the removal tool, turned off system restore, killed the bug, restarted, then turned system restore back on. So far so good.
It took me 3 hours because I'm not a computer type and I'm the only person here that can do this crap, so I spent a lot of time messing around till I got home last nite and googled it.
