My stereo sound on my 535i went out recently. The system is all Factory Original with Head unit, CD Changer in trunk, and Amp in Trunk. The sound started cutting in and out for about a day, then no sound. Turned off system then turned back on 15 min later, everything was fine, then started cutting out again. Now system has no sound.
The Head Unit seems to operate fine, and it seems to shuffle through the CD's ok, but no sound. Also, I don't hear the Amp "pop" when I turn on the system. I don't know a great deal about electrical, so I haven't checked power/current to my amp, but I did check connections, removed and reconnected, Head unit and Amp. My general guess is BAD AMP, I assumed there isn't a seperate fuse for the Amp and since the CD Changer is working I thought power must be OK. Does this seem logical, or possible other issues?
Anyway, there is an Amp for around $30 on Auction, should I try swapping with this amp? Or would I be throwing away $30 as I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with the system and there are no returns. Any insight or advice would be appreciated. BTW, Dealer wants $425 for a new amp, and like $120 minimum to "figure out what's wrong with the system".
TIA
