difference. If you are asking whether it is functional as a spoiler or to increase downforce on the rear wheel, then it depends on how fast your are going. In everyday driving on a highway, the amount of downforce the rear wing generates is no more than putting a bag of sand in the trunk. Granted it is a *BIG* wing, even so, I think it slows the car down more :-) than anything else.

Judging from the exterior profile of the car, it hardly needs a spoiler to reduce lift at high speed; unlike the Audi TT that had some problem with the original egg shape and hence an added spoiler to increase high speed stability. I would think anything that has a nice sloping back would belong to the Audi category that can generate rear lift at high speed so you see all these Porches, and exotics with some sort of rear spoiler just in case someone goes anywhere near top speed.

On the other hand, if you find cars that has a wedge shape, similar to the 9-5, a spoiler really isn't necessary, as you wouldn't find a spoiler on the rear deck of a 745i as its trunk lid acts more or less like a spoiler nor on the M5 (the M5 optional spoiler is only an inch or so high, similar to one on the 9-3SS, again mostly for cosmetics at normal speed).

The big wing is one thing I would get rid off if it is a mandatory item with the STi or I just get the Forester XT...:-P.
