Hello All. Just wanted to pass along a piece of credit card fraud that happened to me this week. I received a mailgram from American Express today. It showed three charges that someone attempted to put on my card on August 19th, however, AmEx being suspicious of the charges, declined them. All three were for gas stations, I believe out of state, one was for $50, one for $65 & one for $70. They made AmEx suspicious because I don't use the gas stations that they were attempted at and I never spend that much at a gas station. The person went to four gas stations that day with my credit card and/or number somehow & failed three attempts, however, got away with charging $39.97 at an Amoco station in Hialeah, Florida.

My AmEx card is still safely in my wallet, yet, someone in Florida used it to pay at the pump for gasoline. So obviously not only did someone get my card number, they somehow produced a card, too.

I use this credit card account (which is the type that you pay in full at the end of every month) to pay for gas, groceries, utilities, AOL, cable bill, cell phone bill, etc. So, the number is out in a bunch of different places, including some websites that I've purchased items from online.

I have AOL Broadband with DSL service currently. I always have firewall protection & virus protection running any & every time I sign onto AOL. I regularly run virus scans & they have not detect any type of virus on my computer. But, somehow, someone in Florida is using my card that's currently in my wallet.

Be careful.
