yes, modern hotels in China are indeed more modern than most so-called modern hotel in the western world. Try using Google and see if you can get to it :-). Not to alarm you but the internet is monitored/controlled but I guess Saabnet is OK with the authority, guess Scott P. should be proud of Saabnet's global reach.
China get many of the European car models, so they have more varities in terms of engine sizes and models. VW/Audi have their plants in China, so you see a lot of those along with many Japanese makes.
Remember people in that part of the world like status symbols, so you would find things like top-of-the-line cars there at well-known orm important places.
You would run into S600 (V12) and BMW 750 (V12) more often than you would in the US. Just to give you an idea, sometimes when Chinese business (and sometimes government) officials visit countries abroad, they would specify the type of cars to greet them, the number one on their list is usually Mercedes Benz S-Series. Yes, they would specify "S-Series". The next on the list is usually BMW 7-Series. Keep that in mind when you travel around the country and that would indicate to you the significance of these cars and the people they carry.
Oh, forgot to mention before you left, you should wear your best watch to meetings, don't do it like me wearing a $30 Casio :-). Gold Rolex Oyster watches are the ones to wear :-), maybe a good imitation would do.
Nice to know that you are enjoying your visit thus far and do tell us about your vegetarian meals as well.
