I bought a 3 ton floor jack at Sears for $49.99, an amazing price. It is not aluminum but steel, however. It is also Chinese (which I don't like... I try to not buy chinese products whenever I can, but there was nothing but them at Sears).

I've done everything with it from jacking up the car for tire rotations to changing the oil pan on my Ford truck. It has saved me a tremendous amount of time and effort... used to use four scissors jacks in various combinations to do all sorts of tasks.

So to get to your question... if I were a automobile repair shop, I'd go for the best $600 jack. But since I use it for fairly infrequent repairs, the jack does very well, it works well, and I've used it to do many very tough tasks like the oil pan replacement.
