I think Adrian is saying that he/she is an idiot. The article makes clear that it is the DISPARITY in relative weight that increases fatalities in lighter vehicles when involved with heavier ones (but NOT, as it also points out, in single-vehicle crashes). So Adrian completely overlooks the idea that reducing the number of SUVs would reduce fatalities.
Note the insightful comments from Public Citizen, an organization I rarely agree with. They fault the NHTSA study because, amongst other things, it discounts the safety features found in some cars (e.g. Saabs).
