Maybe I'm the only one that actually pays attention to commercials, but...

You've seen them, the commercials where the average white male (AWM) is the idiot and anyone else is smarter. Mutual fund ads show the wiseguy impatient husband yielding to the patient, smarter wife asking the salesman for more info, the Sprint ad with the dufus burger eater at the diner counter, the AT&T ad (?) where the guy holds a sign "I'm an idiot", Best Buy salesman recommends smaller speakers to an idiot that jumps off of speaker towers......there are many examples.

Tonight, back to back, were two new commercials, one for the Honda Pilot, where a middle aged white male (the same actor that acts in a similar Washington Mutual commercial) acts like an animal in most circumstances, bonding with wolves, shaking himself dry after a shower, catching a frisbee in midair with his teeth, eating from a bowl without silverware; the female voiceover says she chose the Pilot as men will be men. (And to think I complemented Honda on this board last week for its creative ad using Lego blocks to recreate a Honda Element.....they have so many other classy and creative commercials, then they do this.)

That's immediately followed by a commercial with a scene in a Home Depot like store where a female tests a door bell button display and all the men in the store run towards it like Pavlovian dogs because they think Domino's Pizza is at the door.

Does anyone else resent this stereotype trend? OK, its funny at some level, but if you reversed the roles to some politically incorrect circumstance, it wouldn't ever play on the air. So why does Madison Avenue do this?

As an AWM, I feel so cheap........so used........Al Bundy, where are you when we need you...........(better yet, where is Kelly Bundy?)

Any thoughts?
