Hey guys - remember me?

Hey all-
Just wanted to take a moment and update you on my new (now old) VW
GTI 1.8T 20v. I've started the mods and for the moment I'm going to
stop until next summer. One of the biggest things I like about the
car is having the computer reprogrammed by a company called APR. I
sent them the unit (much like Saab's APC - but more in the box) and
got it back in two-days. I can switch between stock mode and chipped
mode with the car's cruise control stick (car has to be off - just
the ignition turned on. Anyhow, between the box and a few other mods,
it's running around 223hp/260ftlb.
In other areas worth mentioning, I'm adding a dogbone support to prevent
tire hop (running 225/40/17). I dropped the suspension two inches and
added 15mm spacers on the rear. It handles fairly well but not as well
as my old Saab (more body flex than I like - will tighten the front up).
One thing I found a little odd was in the plug/wires/coil setup. I upgraded the coil packs to a newer version. Each plug has its own coil
pack. I wonder if other cars have this type of setup.
Anyhow, that's it. Maybe Scott will let a former Saaber post a picture
of it in the General section of the board. If this weekend is nice, I'll
post a picture or two.
Cheers!
BobJ
