Justin... a lot of people cringe at driving long distances, especially people who live in the city. I have several friends from Brooklyn who won't drive to NJ ("The Mainland") because it gets dark and spooky. They simply aren't used to driving long distances, and act like cats on a beach.

My advice would be to arrange a visit to an independent mechanic in Brooklyn for the day when you pick up the car. Explain your situation, that you are buying the car in Brooklyn, then want to drive it to Ohio, and want the mechanic to check it out. This might cost an extra $100, but is, IMHO, well worth it for the peace of mind it will provide.

I did this for a car I bought in Chicago then drove back to NJ. The mechanic (who I found on the saabnet mechanics list) found several issues that, admittedly, might not have caused a breakdown (like out of true wheels, or a recall not performed), but that made the trip back much more enjoyable.
