I would make sure to talk with a manager at that station and inform him that: 1) Either the guy doesn't have a guage, doesn't know how to use a guage, or isn't smart enough to know that correct pressures are important.
2) This could be a major liability issue if an accident happened and the situation you described could be verified.
Extremely high pressures can blow a tire, significant variation in pressure from side to side can significantly effect handling and braking.
You might want to see if the station manager will give you some indication he will be responsible if you find damage in the near future. Might not be a bad idea to get the tires inspected by a tire professional and tell them the story. If your tires are a name brand, go to one of their stores - or you can go to where you purchased them. If you read the side of the tire you will find a max inflation - this requires that the tire be designed to handle a reasonable amount in excess, but I don't know how much more it might be. Good luck & happy winter.
