a 12.1 at 112 mph. On the giggle gas. This is at 5600 feet mind you.
WRXs ARE drag cars. They turn out exceptionally quick times, yet relatively low trap speeds due to the AWD rocket launch. Compare with a low 13 at 125+ from a modestly modified 9K Aero.
Engine management has not been hacked succesfully and the fastest ones rely on stand alone or piggybacks or other band-aid fixes to fool the box. I am sure its simply a matter of time before a plug-n-play ecu becomes available. But like new SAABs, it is adaptive and quite complex.
The engine will reliably give you over 350hp w/o internal work. A properly sized (read: a bit bigger than what most WRX companies sell) turbo will be necessary. As will lots of fuel system tuneability. Subaru flat fours are known to be knock prone, so lots of room for error would be wise.
Recently many a WRX tranny has failed. 6K rpm + clutch sidestep no doubt. The main advantage I forsee of the 9-2 is that when I can afford to insure one, far fewer will have been abused the way you will find most WRXs.
I want a SAAB sportscar. Anyone know if the B234 fits in a Porsche 914?
