Most car salespeople are in the business to try and make an easy buck. They are not in the business because they like cars - hence they really don't care about learning another about the products they are selling. They just know that as far as retail sales are concerned they can potentially make more money selling cars than working at Best Buy.
I once walked a Nissan used car lot looking for a Altima with ABS and a sorely misinformed salesperson shadowing me. The guy would bend over...look at the caliper and say..."no..dis cah dus nut have da ABS, lets try dis one"...he come across another one and do the same thing and say "ahhh...dis cah have gotta da ABS and nice alloy wheels. All cahz wit da alloy wheels with have da ABS." I look on the window sticker and say, "its not listed as an option on this car." He - remember I was looking for an Altima - walks up to a Ford Focus and says, "See...dis cah have da alloy wheels, so it have da ABS. You like this one?" My response: "Uh, no...I'm looking for an Altima not a Focus." With a perplexed look on his face he moves to the next car a VW GTI (mind you now its a 2-door hatch he's looking at) and says "ahhhh, dis cah have da ABS too, see da alloy wheels. You like this one bettah?" My response: "You know, I think I'll come back during the day so I can get a better look at these cars."
This is one story in a long list of simliar stories I have. The salespeople are in it for the potential of making big $$$$.
