we don't use MFM (or was it RLL?) that needed low-level formats
you put in the cd, boot from the cd .. NT based CD's (3.5/3.51/4.0/2000/XP/2003) all do the same thing you go to a disk setup .. I do them everyday for work .. and I just did one at home the other night
you put the CD in, boot, press F6 if you need anything ... it loads files ... it then asks you if you want to repair or install OS (NT/2000/XP/2003) .. you choose install ... takes you to a screen that shows all your drives / partitions .. delete the partitions (if you want) and then re-create them ... or if you don't want to resize, select the partition .. then you select FORMAT WITH NTFS and the drive is formatted ... then you go through all the install crap ... and you will have a virgin installation of your OS
