I considered putting them on my Viggen, but like you said, it's hardly worth the expense even though the Viggen is nearly impossible to drive in the snow with stock tires on.
My wife has a 9-5 and it's wonderful in snow. She's a teacher so school gets cancelled when it snows so she doesn't need her car that day. I usually end up taking it to work if I opt not to "work from home" that day.
It's simply not worth the expense to put them on AND drive around for several months with crappy looking rims & tires when snowfall in the area is limited.
If I lived in Canada, Minnesota or Boston etc, I'd probably do it.
