My 900T has antilock brakes which are triggered when driving on ice. I found that down shifting was essential for controlled stops. This has saved me more than once at intersections and in fumbled traffic.
Also a few times I wound up in a drift that caused me to get stuck enough to have to 'rock' the car back and forth. This is much more controlled in manuals than auto's. It can be done in autos but timedly, trying not to cause tranny damage.
