You can get a fast Motherboard for pretty cheap and then you can get a decent Processor. You also may want to get the new Ram with is faster than the old Ram.
I didn't know about the new better Ram when I added some to mine to get it to 287MB.
Also you should have at least two Hard Drives. One for OP System and everything else on the others. Then it easy to reinstall your Op System if needed.
If want to speed up your system put you graphics as low as you can and run as few colors as is possible. Delete temp files, etc.
Also shut as much down on start up as possible.
I was told that you should have 87% free system resources for a fast running computer that doesn't freeze, pause and have illegal Ops.
I just have a 400MHz Celeron, 287 Ram and two 40 Gig HDs and doing these things have speeded things up a lot. We don't play video games so this computer is fine for us.
I'm no expert but these are some things that I have learned.
Also the cooling fans will let your computer run better and faster. I've thought about cutting a hole in my housing and putting a huge one back there. I had a fan a while back that was not running properly which was slowing things down a lot. Luckily Intels chips are designed to not melt down but slow down to compensate for increased heat.
Cheers, KB.
