has some negative consequences to be considered during steady state cornering and during braking due to the extra weight (compared to without) but it is a sophisticated system that has some positives under some conditions to be considered too. These cars can not be knocked on the same grounds as a SUV. They do not have the excessive weight, high center of gravity, and general poor handling of a SUV. At a reasonable cost I would consider the quattro style system (unlike many other awd systems) worthwhile on a car. However, I do agree you definately still want to use winter tires in the winter where conditions warrant.
