You are going to have a great time. I was there over Thanksgiving this year and had a blast.

If you have time go south to Masterrich (SP?) do so. It is a great time.

As for Dutch speak, you will be fine with English. I found that even thought I had a bit of Dutch under my belt most people there WANTED to speak English (maybe they did not want to hear me butcher their language)

Do go to the Van Gough museum and the other galleries and the coffee shops are lots of fun.

One word of advice, DO NOT TAKE ANY PICTURES IN THE RED LIGHT DISTRICT!!! I took a picture of a girl in a window to send to a friend and got a few good shots to the face and a knife drawn on me by a pimp wanting my camera. With that said I must also say that the police there are great too (kept the knife out of me or the pimp for that matter since I was about 50 lbs and a foot taller than him!)

Have a great time and be safe. It is a wonderful place.
