I almost had a bad experience with Tire Rack, but it turned out fine and I would buy from them again. Its probably worth paying the installer - if there's a problem, you have someone to fall back on. TR won't accept returned wheels that have been driven on.
Got new snows on steel for our 850 Brick. Put them on myself, and took a quick test drive. THere was sever vibration coming from the rear. Went to a local installed, and they found that 2 of the steel rims were not round - slightly egg shaped - you could see it when spinning the wheel. I asked to return the two bad ones, and TR said no b/c they had been driven on (e.g. I hit a curb and wanted new wheels). And, essentially, since I installed them, they had no guarenteee that I didn't screw it up. Had to have the mechanic explain the problem, and after some wrangling, TR agreed to take them back. Got 2 new ones, and the other two threw their weights - thought I had the same problem again. Had it all checked out and re-balanced at the certified installer, and all was fine. TR reimbursed me for the work too.
