There's some really high-mileage Saabs around, with people bragging about how long they last. Especially around here on TSN. But that comes at a price. They've got piston that move up & down, cranks that spin, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER CAR. There's absolutely nothing magic about them. Things wear out, & the parts aren't cheap.
Don't get me wrong, I like the cars & I keep mine up myself. There's a lot of fanatics who are willing to keep them running for 300,000 miles. Good for them! We owned an '89 900 for over 200k, but it used up so many brake pads, rotors, exhaust systems, steering racks, etc.... There wasn't any special reason, other than we liked the car enough to keep it running.
If maintenance really scares you, get a Corrolla. When it's got over 100k miles it'll be just as boring as when it's new. Maybe that's why you don't hear about people keeping them for 300k??
