Sadly he could call the police on you and claim you stole his car.
The only way legal action MIGHT have a leg to stand on is if you have a signed bill of sale with the buyer's signature that states what he was going to pay for the car. You are screwed if you don't have this because now you have no proof of any transaction and he legally owns the car now that he holds the title.
As other say I would demand payment ASAP and if he hasn't signed a bill of sale ask that he does asap. Email me if you want a generic one I have used to sell a few cars. If he refuses to sign this you know this guy is taking you for a ride.
