way OT... high-temperature electricity Posted by JimBlake [Email] (#141) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JimBlake) on Thu, 1 Apr 2004 08:29:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I know there's some engineers & physicists around here.
High-temperature means maybe 950C/1750F, so it's not the console wiring above the catalytic converter...
Part 1.
I'm starting to look at some electrical wiring in 950C air, atmospheric pressure. At those temperatures we're kinda stuck in the Inconel/Incoloy/Haynes mindset (Fe/Cr/Ni system). The electical conductivity of those materials isn't real impressive.
I'll be looking around at matweb.com & talking to vendors, but does anyone have any suggestions for alternate materials?
Part 2.
Some of this stuff is isolated only by an air gap. My physics book only gives dielectric breakdown strength for room-temperature air. 950 isn't very close to ionization temperatures, but something tells me I might have to worry about it being easier to break down at these temperatures?
