you can resize it easily.
I have a Nikon CoolPix 950, but have always used PS to resize. If you are on a Mac in OS X and have iPhoto, you can resize there, too (sort of). A 990 takes a pretty big shot, probably about 1.2 MB, although it will show up in PS as about 6.0+ MB, due to how PS works. I find resizing to about 4 x 6 inches works well for emailing.
If you want to take a smaller shot, set the camera to "basic" instead of "fine" which may be the default. That will give you a smaller image to start with. Remember if you will send it to someone who will print, the lower res shot will limit how big they can print it and how large you can print on your end.
I just shoot in "fine" mode and resize, but I send pix as part of my biz, so it's no biggie.
Your sending issue depends on your email client. I use Eudora which doesn't care how many attachments I put on a file. Other programs do.
