I waited until four-stroke gas models were available because I hate two-stroke stuff (old saabs excepted, 'natch). Bought a Ryobi (sounds like it's a favorite here).
The freedom from a cord and, more importantly, the vastly greater power of the gas models make gas the easy choice. The work gets done a lot faster. Maintainence is a minimal, annual affair.
