I have known more than half a dozen people, friends and business colleagues who have faced cancer. Some won, others didn't, but the best you can do is be there for them. Give them all the moral support you can. People gain a lot of strength by knowing others are there for them. Some believe in prayer, but I think it is really a matter of many people just providing whatever level of support a friend in crisis needs.

And encourage your friend to look into meditation as a way to reduce the stress she feels. All the people I know who have faced cancer got relief out of meditational techniques. Her doctor should be able to point her at some resources, as this is known and proven practice usually supported by hospitals, HMOs, etc.

Hope it turns out well for all involved. And remember, all you can do is all you can do.
