any such "misuse" problems. And by that I mean settings you inadvertantly meant to switch.
I had this same problem "early-on" when what I was doing should have been labeled as tinkering. Friend's display was set to a higher resolution than the monitor could handle. Booting into windows with F8 (varies depending on OS), default display settings allowed us to change the display to a "viewable" setting. This may help.
Although reading through it sounds like you have a heat-issue (fan should help). This heat-issue can mean either fried board or fried display adapter. Best to check using another PC - does display still work?, and perhaps test with another monitor (if you have an old CRT laying around). We have a similar issue with one of the PCs in the house, where brand new monitor will not "come back" from power-save mode, and as I mentioned, iI believe it is because after being on for so long, too much heat trips the PC into a lock-up. I am planning on adding some fans.
Good luck!
