Filling up gas with engine running (long) Posted by Ken [Email] (#2113) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ken) on Tue, 23 Nov 2004 21:09:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had seen more people filling up their gas with the engine running for the past couple months. I don't think it is safe.
Tonight, I met a guy driving a Jag (S-type). He was more a "new type" than the traditional Jag driver. He looked like more a truck or motorcycle driver. Before he put the gas into his "running" car, I tried to remind him to turn off the engine (of course in a friendly way). I didn't want him to get into a risky situation (besides, my car was only 10 feets away from him).
He looked at me as if I were from another planet and said "I need to do that". I don't understand why he NEEDED to do that. I told him that's dangerous and I would not do that if I were him. He said "Are you the safety inspector !?" I went back to my car.
After he filled up his gas, he said "See, my car didn't expose !". I thought "You don't really want it to be exposed." I just said "If I were you, I would not do that because it is not safe. It is just a common sense." He said "The common sense is none of your business".
Well, I guessed he couldn't handle my friendly advice so I said "Ask your friend". He left with 2 honks. The only thing I can do was shaking my head.
I can't believe some people are liked that. You cannot be nice to some people. Is there something I don't know ? If it is safe to put the gas into the car while the engine is running, why don't all gas stations remove the warning signs and notices !?
I saw some people smoking and using cell phone when they were near the gas pump (I can understand the cell phone, but smoking ??).
