Agreed, tho the 12K number for the Kia I gave was what they sell for in Europe, in euros, if you walk into the showroom. (Of course, 'as an example', I'll admit the Kia is flawed one given its involvement with subsidies, etc.)
I think what you said totally holds true for business-to-business, versus a durable-goods consumer arrangement where there's a whole customer service infrastructure on top of the actual item. The finished goods are harder to move but all the parts are much easier to fulfill from all over the world.
(i.e. our hypothetical Cav in Europe is still an Opel but the block, rotors, and transmission are from the US.)
