URGENT CPO question

I bought a certified pre-owned '01 9-5. Am I responsable for the previous owner's negelect? A dealer is telling me that I've got sludge in my cam shaft and oil pan, and they say that this is due to the PREVIOUS OWNER not changing the oil...(there is no record of a 20K service...there is a 10K and 30K service...I bought the car w/30K, it now has 48K). I've been changing the oil approx. every 3K. Since this is due to "neglect," they say it isn't covered by the CPO warranty.
Are they wrong? Should I be held accountable for someone else's neglect? Or am I covered under CPO?
All help is appreciated.
Brian
