The night before my high school homecomeing, I took the car I was going to drive to an auto car wash to get it cleaned up. Memory serves is was a late 80's early 90's Taurus. Well, me and my buddy pull up to the auto bay and it is the kind with the trax on it that pulls your car through. We get about halfway through and all of the sudden we hear a "chunk" and the motor gets real loud.
so after we get out, inspection reveals that the car wash mechanism grabbed the exhaust and yanked it around and cracked the manifold (there was nothing wrong with the exhaust prior to entering the wash, it was in the stock location). This was my dad's car. So, tail between the legs we take it home sounding like a nascar stocker. Lucky for me my aunt lent me a much nicer Bonneville for homecoming (with a large backseat!). My dad took the car to the carwash and haggled with the owner, but he had a zero liability sign posted and my dad got pissed and didn't pursue the matter. Had to replace the manifold (and I had to hear it from the old man).
I have never gone back to an auto carwash since. 10+ years ago.
