Rafe is right. In Texas where I did my balloon the dealer pointed out that each year under a lease you pay to register the car based on value (i.e., personal property tax type assessment which is the way they also register cars in California to pay for all those freeways) whereas with the balloon the cost is around $50 per year. Leasing only works under such circumstances for professionals like realtors or doctors/lawyers with their own businesses who can make use of the cost by deducting it as a business expense. Also, you need to buy gap insurance so you are not stuck in case of a fiasco type wreck were the payments left might be more than what the regular insurance says the car is worth (especially with a Saab). By the way, I currently have 3 and except for the Aero 95 which I will return to Saab in mid April because I don't want to have anything more to do with them, all of them have been hugely expensive to maintain. The 900, 9000, and V6 95 have each had roughly $6k of repairs over their life in my family (say 5 years in the case of the 95, 8 in the case of the 9000, and 10 in the case of the 900).
