Wife and I have been discussing getting one. I've been reading sites that sell them and of course they're going to market them in a positive way, looking for some first hand experiences though. Just wondering if anybody here uses one...if it's helped save on heating costs, if it's efficient, easy to setup/use...etc.

We have two fireplaces in our home, one of which is in the basement family room. We're thinking about getting an 'insert' type to put in there instead of a free standing one.

Also, we're hoping that it can help heat the upstairs (ranch style home) at the same time by having the blower on in the HVAC system to draw the heat in through the return and circulate through the house. Return is a few feet away from the fireplace.

Just trying to figure out how cost effective it is. Initial purchase I've found with everything needed is about $1500-$1750 and pellets are $125/ton.

Any help is of course greatly appreciated.
