I had the Fredrich C90...same type of unit as the Honeywell/somkemaster, maybe the oldest one of the bunch, mine was probably 10+ years old, so they're also durable. It gets EVERYTHING out of the air. Cryptical's totally right on the high points, expensive to get, but cheap to run.
CR had much praise for this type of filter...ionic breeze, on your list, is also an electrostatic-type filter but it's designed to be passive (relies on circulation in the room), so the real-world results are not very good.
Dishwasher isn't required, but it gets the best results. In NYC it caught enough crap that I'd have to run it thru 2 or 3 times to clean it every few months.
Dunno if it's one of your priorities, but it's the only type of unit that takes smoke out of the air. HEPA units processing smoke just begin to smell funny no matter how often you change the charcoal filter.
