behavior on the NYS Thruway. Some of it much like you describe. It's a long, open road, often without a lot of traffic, and I think people just zone out and even lose track of where on the Thruway they are.

I see amazingly dumb and hazardous driving on that road. A month ago I'm doing a little under 80 in the right lane. A string of cars goes by at about 90, all about 10 feet apart. The last vehicle is a big crotch-rocket type motorcycle, about 6 feet off the bumper of the car ahead of him. And forty feet back from him is a big SUV. Can you imagine what a wreck that little train would be like if someone in the right lane pulled out in front of the lead car?

A few years ago I was headed west at night. I was running 75-80 and this yahoo in a Infiniti SUV kept passing me, then slowing down. I'd pass him and he'd speed up and pass me again. After the 3rd or 4th time (over about 15 - 20 miles) I realized the guy had a DVD player in the front seat and was watching a movie. The screen was angled toward the driver & he was alone in the car. I finally got off and mentioned it to the toll booth attendant who called the cops! There was a trooper right there in the toll area and he took off to try to nail the guy.
