not so much water as to cause an electrolite imbalance though ;-)
really the most effective measure to curb lactic acid is to basically be in top cardiovascular shape, as ( too an extend) some lactic acid produced is transported to the liver via the blood where it is eventually converted back to glycogen.
Certain types of athletes either produce minimal amounts of LA, other can handle very high levels of LA, such as track sprinters, and oddly enough Lance Armstrong. BUt he did not start out his career winning the TDF, he was very good at high power events such as LBL and the Tour of Flanders. That changed though as he adapted err lost 20 lbs
