Rear-drive is better Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Mon, 16 May 2005 06:56:01 In Reply to: O.T. 22" Lawn Mower, Front wheel drive or..., PeterH, Mon, 16 May 2005 05:50:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Especially if it's a rear-bagger. As the bag gets fuller, any weight on front drive wheels gets offset by the weight in the bag.
I got a Craftsman front drive, self-start lawnmower about 6 years ago. I hated it from day 1. The bag would fall off when I changed directions, it wouldn't track straight, and the muffler collapsed internally and it coughed and died. Not to mention that the salesman lied to us when he said that the speed was adjustable.
So, I got an MTD rear-bagger lawnmower from Lowe's and, as much as one can considering what summertime mowing in Atlanta is like, love the thing. It's a well-designed, decently made lawn machine. It's still front drive, but it's infinitely better than the Craftsman.
My experience, FWIW, is that Sears is good for paint, tools, and some appliances.
