Who knows, it might also be a test of the American consumers' perception of the value of Toyotas.
If their sales don't drop significantly with higher prices, then they might just conclude that they can push their prices up a little more because the percieved desirability of their cars is higher than American brands. It would be an informal wallet referrendum on GM and Ford products.
